Ginga Root Tea eBook Naomi Pringle Reviews
I highly recommend Gingaroottea.
It is a vivid description of a Jamaican immigrant family's struggle to survive in New York City during the turbulent 1920's.
I believe that this family's story will stir readers to examine their own American roots.
Ginga' Root Tea is a great summer read. It's a gripping account of an immigrant family from Jamaica in the early 1900's. The author recounts the universal struggle of immigrants to this country, sacrificing a comfortable life in their home country with the hope of living the American dream. The characters endure the hardship of leaving family behind and sailing into New York City, living in substandard accomodations and working menial jobs that are beneath them, in order to create a better life for their children. The characters seem so real, that the reader begins to feel a part of the family and the plot quickly moves the reader through the painful transition from the beauty of the Jamaican countryside to the grit and prejudice of New York City. Ginga' Root Tea
Ms Pringle is a gifted writer who easily and comfortably puts you directly into the lives of these people. She writes with love, insight and caring... do not miss this endearing heart-filled story!
Ginga’ Root Tea was a delightful read, following the migration of a family, around the turn of the century, from Jamaica to New York City. I found Ms. Pringle’s descriptions vivid, yet tender, finding the heart of the reader. Generational conflicts arise as each family member finds their own unique way of letting go of the past and reaching for something more.
Some of the decisions a family is forced to make in order to move forward can have far reaching consequences—such was the truth in Ginga’ Root Tea. I became quite invested in the outcome of the characters and look forward to the sequel. A wonderful novel!
I couldn't put the book down. A wonderful story, beautifully written. I can not wait to read her next book.
